With Valentine’s Day fast approaching I figured I would put together a very pretty, romantic, and feminine look for the day that’s in it! Whatever your plans are for Valentine’s Day this look will be perfect. It’s very simple and it will suit everybody. I focused on creating a very dewy, bright complexion, I paired this with a soft smokey eye, and a pretty warm pink lip. I hope you like this look, and I hope you have a lovely Valentine’s day! xx
As always a prepped and primed base is essential, I primed my face with Charlotte Tilbury’s Wonder Glow primer, any brightening or illuminating primer will do the trick. I also primed my eyelids with primer and concealer. I now always use a damp beauty blender to apply my concealer, it creates a flawless canvas. Next I set the concealer on my lids using a setting powder, this helps avoid creasing and it also creates a matte look which is a great starting point for this look. I used MAC’s Soft Brown as a transition shade. I applied this all over the upper crease area. I then used MAC’s Satin taupe to define the crease. I applied this shade to the crease area, from inner corner to outer corner, keeping it tight in the crease but blending it up into the upper crease area slightly. Then, to darken the outer corner of the crease I applied MAC’s Plummed and blended it in towards the centre of crease. Because you are adding so many colours to this area you need to keep blending; use the brush you used to apply your transition shade and after applying each new colour go back and blend it all. I applied Shroom to my brow bone to highlight the area. You will find these colours in the MAC Gravitas Palette. Next, I applied MAC’s Pigment Pot Kitschmas to the lid, keeping it below the crease. I used a damp eyeshadow brush for this step as it really brings out the pigment. The pigment tends to go everywhere so you need to make sure you keep it below the crease. You will need to go back over the crease with the dark colours to redefine the depth because the pigment pot will make them fade. Next I applied gel liner, I created a soft flick at the outer corner because I always think this looks very feminine. I applied a thick line of liner so that the brightness created by the pigment pot on the lid really stands out. I chose not to wear lashes with this look but if you want to wear them a subtle elegant pair will be stunning rather than a very dramatic or bold pair.
Moving on to the face, I applied my under eye concealer with my beauty blender and I applied my foundation with a stippling brush. The key to this look is creating a fresh, dewy face. I applied a liquid highlighter to my cheekbones, the centre of my forehead, and my Cupid’s Bow (how appropriate!). I didn’t want to do any contouring with this look because I was going for a softer look, instead I used a cream bronzer and applied it to the tops of my cheekbones and along my hairline at the sides of my forehead, this just creates a pretty, sun-kissed glow. I then set everything with a setting powder. If you have dry skin you can skip the setting powder, if you are oily the powder will really help keep everything in place. I am somewhere in between but I always set everything with a powder because otherwise my makeup would disappear in no time. Because this is such a delicate look I chose to use a very soft pink blusher to add just a small amount of colour to the cheeks. I also added just a touch of powder highlighter to the tops of my cheeks for extra glow.
Going back to the eyes I filled in my brows using the MAC brow crayon, and added several coats of black mascara. I blended my transition shade across my lower lash line and then blended Satin Taupe into the outer corners blending it in toward the centre of my eye, I also used a black kohl pencil to deepen the outer corners and kept the inner corners free of any darkness, I added a pop of the pigment pot to the inner corners of my eyes to make the eyes look really big and open.
Finally I applied a Stila lip crayon in Coquette to my lips. I wanted a subtle lip using a nice deep and warm colour.
And that’s that. Have a very happy Valentine’s Day, xx
