Look of The Week: All That Glitters

More glitter, woohoo! I Love this look for around the Christmas season, mixing dark smokiness and bright glitter. I prefer this look on people with light coloured eyes such as blues and bright greens. I hope you like it, xx

As I said in the previous post, eyelid primer is a must when using glitter. You don’t want the rest of your face looking like a disco ball! I did my usual routine of primer and concealer on the lids. I then used Soft Brown as a transition shade and worked it up well above the crease. Then, using Pepper from the MAC Gravitas palette, a gorgeous dark grey, I went over my crease, bringing it up above he crease but not as high as Soft Brown. Don’t forget to make sure these blend seamlessly. I next applied MAC’s Carbon, the blackest black from Gravitas, all over the lid  below the crease. Blending is really important because you want the deep dark black to fade gently to a soft grey in the crease and above. Blend away to your heart’s content. I then patted Revolt from the Urban Decay Electric Palette across my lid. This will mostly cover Carbon but will create a fantastic contrast. The photos really don’t do this look any justice, the pigmentation is so intense the colours are amazing and the glitter just sparkles under the right lights. I lined my upper lash lines with a black gel, I created an intense flick at the outer corner. 20141207_153044-1

I then moved on to my face. As usual with glitter, clean up is essential under the eyes, let’s be grateful for eye cream and cotton buds. I then applied my under eye concealer, I still love MAC’s pro longwear, but I set it with a bright powder because I like this area to be bright to contrast the dark smokey eye. Next step is foundation. I am currently using NARS Sheer glow foundation with a Morphé stippling brush, I love the two together. I set my foundation with a warmer powder than the one I used under my eyes. I then created a subtle contour with NARS Algorithm. Next I applied my blusher.

When this is all done I go back and finish off my eyes. On my lower lash line I first use Soft Brown, then I blend it with Pepper, and then deepen it even further with a very small amount of Carbon. Keep blending if you want to achieve the perfect smokey look. I then lined my water line with the black gel liner.

For the finishing touches I applied several coats of black mascara, filled in my brows, popped on a pink lipstick for some colour, and set it all with a setting spray.

And that’s it, its a simple enough look to create but working with the dark colours can be off-putting. Don’t be afraid to try it out, just remember to keep that trusty eye cream on stand by! xx
