Look of The Week

I love this makeup look, I think it’s really elegant and pretty. It’s very simple to accomplish and you can go full blown smokey or tone it down for a more casual look. Hope you enjoy it, xx

I prepped my eyelids, as always, with both my lid primer and concealer. I then applied my transition shade to the upper crease area. I used a warm transition because I wanted a lot of depth in my crease. I then took my favourite MAC eye shadow, Embark, and I applied this to the outer corners of my eyes and brought it halfway across my lid. Embark is a bizarre eye shadow, in the pan it looks like a very deep brown (have a look at the pic below) but when it blends it becomes the most stunning deep purple colour, I love it! There is a lot of blending involved in this step. You want the most pigmentation in your crease and the outer corner, and then it needs to blend gently across the lid, leaving the inner corners, and the area from the centre of your lid inward bare. As I said, you can make this look really smokey by bringing this shade up high in the crease, or keep it low for a softer look. In the pictures below I kept it on the softer side.

MAC – Embark, everyone should have this eye shadow!

Next I took a very soft pink/nude colour and applied it to the innder corner and the centre of my lid, blending it into Embark. This creates a lovely smudged look. Then I applied some black liner across the upper lid. I created a very soft feline flick at the outer corner. This look really makes eyes look wide and bright and the flick just adds even more glamour and definition. Have a look at my post on liners for more tips and tricks for this step.

I then moved onto my face; I applied my concealer under my eye, this helps brighten up the eye area even more. I applied my foundation next and then set both with a powder. I used a mineralize skin finish powder to contour (I also have a post on highlighting and contouring). I used a very soft peachy-pink colour for my blusher and finally I added a very subtle highlight across the top of my cheekbones.

Going back to my eyes I applied embark to my lower lash line and blended it until it was seamless, the last thing you want is a harsh line in this area, it needs to look really smokey and smudged. I then filled in my brows, and applied a few coats of black mascara.

With this look I like to wear a warm lip colour, I am wearing Bobbi Brown’s Rose Blossom.

This is a great look that will really take you anywhere depending on how bold you go.
