Real false lashes?

I am a huge fan of Pinterest, it’s where most of my spare time is spent! It is full of interesting, useful, different, and a few crazy, ideas! I nearly always try out the ideas I like the look of, some work, some really don’t. Recently I saw someone post a trick to faking false lashes. I had to try it. I love how faklse lashes look but they can be uncomfortable, especially for contact lens wearers.

To make your own lashes look fake all you need is a cotton bud and baby powder. You apply one coat of your mascara, then you apply the baby powder to the lashes with a cotton bud, in similar movements to how you use the mascara wand, and then apply another coat of mascara. You can repeat this as much as you want. The powder separates the lashes before the next coat and it makes them look longer. It is a simple process and it is not  messy, which was my fear.

Falsies?

Having tried it out, here is what I found: My lashes looked really intense. I like this Pinterest tip, it worked well. It is a process that will take a few attempts to get the hang of. On my first attempt one eye turned out really well but the other wasn’t as perfect, it was a bit clumped. After a few practice runs it becomes super simple. The powder really fanned out my lashes and made them look longer. The powder also made the mascara super dark. Now, when I wear lashes, I wear major lashes. I like ’em big and bold. So this baby powder trick didn’t really give me the full false lash effect. What it did do is give me lashes half way between my normal ones and my false ones. A perfect look for people who don’t like the feel of falsies, and for those occasions that don’t really call for falsies but still deserve some glamour! One downside is that my lashes feel heavier than usual, not nearly as uncomfortable as falsies, but it still takes some getting used to. I only applied the baby powder twice, once would even have sufficed, too many coats will just become too heavy and too uncomfortable, in my opinion.

The top shows my normal mascara routine and the bottom shows the baby powder routine. I used the same mascara.

I found this trick useful, I like how my lashes look, and I like that it gives me an alternative to falsies! Give it a go, don’t forget to curl your lashes for extra lift. I would love to hear what you guys think, and how you get on with it! Tweet me your results/findings @ClaireM_Makeup
