Look of The Week

I can’t believe another week has come around so fast! This week I recreated the makeup look I wore to the Dublin Horse Show last Thursday. As you can see from the photo I was wearing a very colorful dress and kimono with a headpiece (sure why not?) so I wanted a subtle and simple makeup look. I opted for a very gentle smokey eye and created as close as I could to a flawless face! This look will take you anywhere as it is not too smokey but does add a touch of glamour. Hope you like it.

To create a flawless face with makeup you really need a flawless base! Cleansing and moisturizing are a must, I also believe primer is a must but people vary. I am using Charlotte Tilbury’s Wonder Glow primer and it is fantastic. I also use an eye cream. Once my face is prepped I move onto the eyes.
I applied primer to my lids and then concealer for extra hold. Next I applied a base shadow, any bone color will do, I used a MAC one. What I wanted to achieve with this look was a deepened crease and a bright lid so I first applied a transition shade, my trusted Tickety Boo, next I went straight in with a very deep purple shade. I applied this liberally to the crease, making it as dark as I could, don’t forget to keep blending, as my favorite beauty blogger, Jaclyn Hill says, “blend until your eyes and your hand hurt”! I next took a shimmery champagne colour and applied it all over the lid. This can tone down your crease colour so it is important to go back over the crease to darken it up when you are finished with the lid. Blending the two shades together takes any harshness from the deepened crease, instead making it a subtle transition from light to dark. Then I applied a thick line of black liner and created a gentle wing at the outer corners.
Once you are happy with this part of the eyes it’s time to move onto the face. I applied my under eye concealer first. I then used Tom Ford’s Translucent Foundation Stick. I used this because it creates an amazingly dewy finish, and it has great staying power. I will post a review of this product in the next few days so keep an eye out for it. I then set my under eye concealer with a bright finishing powder, I also applied this powder to the areas of my face that tend to get shiny, so my T zone basically. I prefer to use less powder with this foundation, so I only apply it where I really need it. I used a very light MAC skin finish to create a very subtle contour across my forehead and cheek bones. If you want more specific guidelines on contouring have a look at my highlighting and contouring post. Finally I applied a soft pink blush. I love pale, pretty pinks on pale skin, they just create a lovely pop of colour.

Now that the flawless face is created I return to finish off my eyes. Lining my lower lash line I began with my transition shade, Tickety Boo, and then went over it with the deep purple I used in my crease. Blending is so important for the lower lash line. Then to darken the water line I went over it with a black kohl pencil.
I was going to be wandering around outside for the day at the horse show, and it was a beautiful bright sunny day so I was wearing my sunglasses. For this reason I wanted to avoid wearing lashes (I hate when they keep brushing the lens of my glasses!). Instead I tried out a new trick that is supposed to make your own lashes look like falsies. It involves using baby powder and a cotton bud! I will do a full post on this new technique tomorrow so I won’t go into too much detail now, I will say that my lashes did look more intense than if I had just done my normal mascara routine. However, if you are happy with your own lashes, just apply a few coats of black mascara!

Falsies?

Falsies?

And finally fill in your brows. Have a look at my eyebrow sculpting post for more tips. I also highlighted under my brow bone for more lift and polish.
Last but not least I applied a rose color to my lips. I used a Stila long wear lip color, it is half way between a gloss and a lipstick. It is super creamy and last a very long time.

And… we’re done. It’s a relatively straight forward look, but it is very pretty and easy to pull off! Have a look at the pics below.

First of all I would like to say excellent blog!

I had a quick question that I’d like to ask if you do
not mind. I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your thoughts prior to writing.
I’ve had a hard time clearing my mind in getting my thoughts out there.
I do take pleasure in writing however it just seems like the
first 10 to 15 minutes are generally wasted simply just trying
to figure out how to begin. Any ideas or tips?
    Cheers!

Hey, thanks for the compliment! Of course I don’t mind! I’m going to be a complete nerd and quote F. Scott Fitzgerald, “write about what you know”. I know what I want to write about and know what I want to say before I start writing. I’m always planning my posts for a few days too. Making a plan, or even having a plan in your head before you sit down to write makes a huge difference! Having the idea of a basic structure will help you get started and takes away any writer’s anxiety which is extremely common! Hope this helps, best of luck with your writing.
