The wonderful mother-daughter duo of Sharon and Kelly Osbourne have recently launched their MAC collection. The first thing I get excited about when I hear about upcoming collaborations is the packaging. Kelly’s packaging is a beautiful and playful lavender colour, embellished withe her signature in a bright red. Sharon’s is a flashy red, with her signature in Lilac. Both are very pretty. Although considered a two part collection, they are very much separate, and yet very complimentary to each other.
Sharon’s collection consists of an eyeshadow quad, a lip pencil, two shades of lipglass, four shades of patentpolish pencils, an eye pencil, a mineralize skin finish duo, a blush, an angled shading brush, and a face blending brush.
Kelly’s collection includes an eyeshadow quad, an eye kohl pencil, a jumbo penultimate eye liner, a brow duo, a lip pencil, four shades of lipstick, a mineralize skin finish duo, a blush, a pencil brush, and a flat buffer brush.
The quads are simply stunning. I was tempted to spring for both but in the end decided on Kelly’s. Both quads consist of three new shades and one from the normal line. Sharon’s quad has beautiful copper, gold, and nude tones. They are fabulous colours but I felt with my recent purchase of Naked 3, I had enough of those shades. Kelly’s quad on the other hand is a combo of platinum, pale lilac, a hard to describe (just look at the picture!) nude pink, and a deep plum. What sold this palette for me was the super versatile shade in the upper right. This is a fantastic transition shade for blending out smokey eyes, these are hard to come by, but I have used mine with a really dark navy, a metallic blue, and a bold pink, in the last week. The platinum colour is also a stunning highlight for under the brows.
Speaking of brows, Kelly’s collection includes a brow duo, two beautiful colours that blend to help create a perfectly filled in brow for blondes and light brunettes.
When new collections like these launch people tend to get caught up in the fancy new packaging. The important thing to consider when choosing whether to buy from a new line is that some of the products are just repackaged from the normal line, with a jacked up price tag. The lipsticks in this collection are super pretty, but a number of them are almost identical to products from the normal range. In Kelly’s line, Yum Yum and Strip Poker are easily copied from the (cheaper) normal range. I personally did not like Riot House even though the pictures of it made it look gorgeous. I felt it was far too orange, it needed to be toned down with more yellow tones.
Dodgy girl is the lipstick that stands out most though. The lilac colour is so pigmented and so bold. I bought this one, but the more I wear it, the less I like it! I can’t pull off this colour, but the ladies in MAC were wearing it, and it looked fab on them. I tried mine with a few other colours layered over it, and I fell in love with the combo of it, and the Viva Glam lip glass from Rihanna’s collection. It creates a fab raspberry shade, perfect for summer.(See photo below) I also liked it mixed with a nude-pink shade. Smashbox’s limitless long wear lip gloss in Forever makes a very pretty pink/purple/nude, sounds bizarre but it looks great! (have a look at the swatch below).
Instead of lipsticks, Sharon’s range has four Patent polish pencils, for all the world like Clinique’s chubby sticks. I can’t fault any of these, I really regret not purchasing one but I am on my way back to get one ASAP! She also had two lip glasses, one pretty pearl gold colour, and one rich mauve colour. I might also be going back for the mauve!
The blushes are very different to one another, Sharon’s is a deep peach/pink, while Kelly’s is a delicate rose colour. See my post about bronzers and blushers if you’re trying to decide on one of these.
I love mineralize skin finishes. I purchased Kelly’s because it is an all over shade that is designed to create definition and highlight. Sharon’s contains a bronzer, it is still a beautiful product and will be a good purchase for anyone wanting to contour.
Pencils rarely excite me, I didn’t really consider the lip and eye pencils. Sharon has a metallic eye pencil, and a pink lip liner pencil. Kelly has a nude lip liner pencil, and a simple black kohl pencil. Kelly’s range also has a jumbo eye liner pen. I find eyeliner pens awkward, you need a very steady hand for these.
I was somewhat disinterested in the brushes also. None of them jumped out at me as being innovative or exciting (Pretty much what you are looking for in a limited collection), they do look good in the lilac and red though.
I was very excited about this collection. I knew Sharon and Kelly would be promoting very fun but sophisticated colours. I only purchased three products from the range, all from team Kelly, but I would love to go back for a few more items, particularly the patent polish pencils. If you re thinking of purchasing from this collection I would hurry, I was there the day they launched in Cork, and several of the products were already sold out. They are proving very popular!
: ) Thanks for the tips!
