Pigment Pot

I have always been intrigued by MAC’s pigment pots but very wary of them at the same time. I don’t like mess when I’m doing my makeup, and my pet peeve is shadows that fall onto my face when I’m applying them. That is what was putting me off trying a pigment pot. As the name suggests it is a loose pigment… in a pot. They always appeared to be difficult to manage, and likely to fall everywhere. However, the amazing colours broke me in the end and I had to try one!

I was drawn to the Rose pigment pot. The colour is simply amazing in the pot; a beautiful bright pink with tones of copper in it. Now, I am very pale, I have dark hair and green eyes and I thought any pink colour on my eyes would make me look, well, like I had an eye infection. Having spoken to one of the makeup artists in MAC, who was rocking the gorgeous purple pigment, she assured me as long as it is applied right the pink would look fantastic. She also gave me application tips to calm my uneasiness about spillage.

Opening the pot can be somewhat precarious, but there is a plastic cover as well as an outer lid, so just be wary and don’t open it in a rush! Rebecca, the makeup artist, told me to use my brush to scoop out some of the pigment and swirl it in the outer lid to get it all together. It is also important to use a wet brush for application as the pigment will cling to the brush and transfer to the eye easier. Having tried these tips I can say there were no messy incidents. The pigment went on perfectly, I used a damp 239 eye shader brush. It really needs to be packed on heavily to get the most vibrancy from the colour. See my results below!

My rose choice was also perfect, applied heavily the bronze tones shine beautifully. I used ‘factory’ from Urban Decay’s Naked 3 in the crease to pick up the bronze in the pigment. Lined with black eyeliner the look is very fun and great for introducing some colour. However, it is very striking so I would not be wearing bright clothes with it, instead keep your outfit neutral and let the pigment do the talking!

After all my apprehension I can honestly say I love my pigment pot, at a reasonable €24.50 (considering the size of the pot and what little product you use for each application) I will definitely be going back to try some of the many other brilliant colours, who knows, I may even be brave enough for the ‘Ever So Yellow’ colour!
